Imagine climbing a mountain, surrounded by the most beautiful scenery one can only imagine. Behold a fjord 800 meters below you, with its blue arms stretching out with raging brushes of waves on to beautiful polished rocks in the archipelago. An eagle is soaring high above you, and the only thing you can hear is the mesmerizing whispers of the wind. This sight is what Maria is trying to give you. With her enchanting lyrics and clever euphemisms, she compels you to take a part in her life. It’s intimate, and maybe only hers to keep, but with the musical drive and talent Maria possesses, it is only fair that she shares her musical works. Maria Toresen comes from an extremely musical family. She`s a songwriter whom sings, plays guitar, piano and violin. It was inevitable that she became a musician. Her grandmother, her greatest influence, was her violin teacher and “tour manager” in her childhood. The rest of the Toresen being musicians also have had a huge impact on Marias development into being the artist she is. Whenever she came to her grandma`s house, there would be hundreds of instruments she could play on and someone there to encourage her. To honor her grandmother, Maria decided to play violin on all her tracks on her debut album. Birds Don’t Tell’ is also dedicated to her grandfather. Her love for nature, it`s beauty and all it`s small details is a heritage from him that often find it`s way into her writing. To define Maria’s music is a bewildering task. Maria Toresen`s music is characterized by beautiful harmonies, melodic antics combined with touching ‘on the spot’ lyrics. She sways between the genres of pop, folk and Americana. Her songs make room for both musical satires and darker melancholy, and it is impossible to stand unaffected by her mesmerizing vocals.
