This is Tommy Talton's fourth release from Hittin' the Note Records. He is at his finest when reflecting on life, love and social issues. As a wordsmith his lyrics are as timeless as the melodies he creates. As a guitarist he has an exquisite sound that is totally his own. While many of his songs go deep and are reflective, he is not above bawdy humor on occasion. Listen to the lyrics well and you will pick up on some of the cleverness that is ever present but usually understated. The 11 original songs on this album are each unique - different time signatures, different keys, different genres of musical styles - but they all have that down home Talton sound. It's a real pleasure listening to Tommy's excursions - from his home base of Southern roots music to Sgt. Pepperish Beatles to country into raw, Zeppelin type surf music - these songs are wonderful gifts to be enjoyed time and again. Tommy Talton is a familiar name to many, especially fans of '70s Southern rock. Talton figured heavily into that part of music history co-founding the band Cowboy, discovered by none other than Duane Allman, who, as legend has it, banged on their door at 7am one day and asked to hear some songs. He then recommended them to Capricorn label owner Phil Walden, who sent Allman Brothers producer Johnny Sandlin to check them out; Sandlin ended up producing several Cowboy albums for Capricorn. Cowboy was recently chosen as one of the Top 10 Country Rock Albums of all time by About.com. (countrymusic.about.com/od/top10lists/tp/Top-10-Best-Country-Rock-Albums.htm) Tommy has played guitar with the likes of Gregg Allman, Bonnie Bramlett, Dickey Betts, Kitty Wells and Clarence Carter in addition to his own band. He's still adding to the rich tapestry of Southern music, and truly is at the top of his game.
