Acidic new wave disco, post-punk and downlow sleaze by Glasgow’s Mr TC and polyglot frontman Low Bat for discerning Eurotrash and Europhiles Trystero’s debut album is the fruit of a 3-day residency aboard Urban Boat, a ‘60s barge-turned-arts space moored on a river outside Paris, where the pair’s moody energies melded into seven cuts distinguished by the sort of production Thomas Lea Clarke, aka Mr TC has developed for Optimo Trax and his own Phase Group label with pal and spar Lo Kindre. Joined by Frenchman Low Bat, who sings in a mix of English and Italian, and is also fluent in German, their results dance around a classic sound that spans decades and lo-slung, louche-to-driving grooves. ‘Rite Dell’ellica’ purrs into action on a mid-tempo, lounge lizard shuffle with Low Bat’s Italian vox harnessed to nuff cowbells and acid tweaks, and ‘Rock dei Pelicani’ sounds like Now Waving meets The Cure. The rest of the session hews to a slower, sleazier verve, evident on the oozing creep of ‘La Lingua Rosso’, thru an eerie sort of neofolk prayer ‘La Rostra Autonomia’, to a wicked bit of acid rock sludge on ’Subarra’
