This album by Pierre do Sameiro, the first to be released under his own name, evokes the songs of Jean Ferrat, the films of Pier Paolo Pasolini, his years of apprenticeship at the Centre des musiques Didier Lockwood (CMDL), his attendance at Paris jam sessions and his encounters with Olivier Temime, Jérôme Sabbagh, Stéphane Guillaume and André Villéger, which led him to become a musician recognized by his peers.
So many events constituting the stages of a trajectory that took him from Paris to Florence.
We also discover the lyricism of his playing, the quality of his phrasing, his very personal way of developing a melodic line which, while avoiding all unnecessary chatter, fits in naturally with the fine touches of guitarist Simone Basile and the complicit accompaniment of double bassist Matteo Anelli and drummer Giovanni Paolo Liguori.
And then there are his compositions, which tell the story of a life evoked by the serene atmosphere of Solego and Song For Jessica, the rhythmic bubbling of the aptly named The Hang, and Togliatti’s Blues, masterfully interpreted in the great tradition of hard bop. A fine record.
