Welcome to ‘Bewilderland’ where life is like living a Groundhog Day version of the dead parrot sketch. The new album from Jack Cade follows on from where the 2021 album ‘The Death Throes of a Jaded Empire’ left off. Where the last album was inspired by an awakening to the blind acceptance of what we are told, the nature of the history we are taught, politics, media and the way a society has an inbuilt need to portray itself in a positive light, the new album looks at how this affects the self. Over the last 2 years Jack has reflected on how the conditioning of his youth through to adulthood affects everyday decisions, reactions and outlooks. It takes some time to stop and unpick why you react in certain ways to issues and situations and to break this conditioning and change.
The songs cover subjects on questioning, self-doubt, the false portrayal of life online, saving something of yourself in the face of adversity, holding on to dreams, positivity in the world, staying true to yourself, surviving depression and gas-lighting. Compositions that could individually have found a home on one or more of the previous three albums.
