VA - Film Noir (2024)

Film noir laid the foundations for a dark cinema inspired by detective literature and German expressionist cinema, with its backlighting and black-and-white direction. It was also one of the first genres to emerge with talking pictures. Popularised in the 40s with great American classics such as The Maltese Falcon, Gilda, Laura, Sunset Boulevard, A Place in the Sun, and then certain films by the 'master of suspense', Alfred Hitchock, film noir has since diversified with the Nouvelle Vague, neo-noir, and of course thrillers, but many more recent films in colour (!) also claim this heritage.
