On February 19th, 2023, PAKT played Solar Myth in Philadelphia to a full capacity audience. Ars Nova Workshop has been presenting the finest concerts and musicians to Philadelphia fans for decades, so it was a special honor for us to be here and a part of the remarkable ANW programming. So many incredible artists have graced this stage, and the energy of Sun Ra and his disciples lives here. We were still riding high from last night's NYC show. Percy, Alex, and Kenny drove down from NYC and met me at Solar Myth. Barry Meehan arrived with a bass rig for Percy to use, and Avraham Bank showed up to photograph the band, and while here, shared a Hipgnosis photo book with Percy and us. Hipgnosis designed some Brand X covers. After soundcheck we all walked around the corner for some delicious Mexican food prior to showtime.
We were greeted by a warm listening enthusiastic audience at Solar Myth. We dove deep immediately into the set, still burning from our energy from last night’s show in NYC. Percy again was on fire. This band continues to evolve and find new harmonic and sonic pathways. This concert details that impressively. We usually play about 20-minute flows that could include 2 to 3 pieces all tied together. Our music is a journey really, and takes the listener, and us through unexpected musical twists and turns. Tonight, was no exception. As I listen back to Beau Gordon’s mix from the night, I am reminded of the deep communication and listening and years of experience that leads to this extraordinary fully improvised music of PAKT. It’s almost like a movie for the ears. PAKT continues to blaze new sonic trails. Truly a special band, the chemistry works, and it is a joy for us to continue to work together. We hope you will enjoy this concert from Philadelphia.
