February 18th at Nublu in New York City was a night to remember. It was a tribute to beloved bass legend Percy Jones, who was being honored that night, and played in two bands: The Bootstrappers with drummer Don McKenzie and guitarist Elliott Sharp, and PAKT (Percy, Alex, Kenny, Tim).

The night literally was packed(!) with an excited supportive audience. We were surrounded by New York fans, deep heads, plus many great musicians came out to this show as well. There was an amazing positive celebratory vibe in the room. Elliott, Percy, and Don had a great opening set and really tuned the air in the room for PAKT. It was great to meet and hear Elliott play live finally, I loved his work for decades as an innovative NYC downtown scene guitarist/composer/improviser! Wonderful to meet Don McKenzie too, his drumming was insane—and you might see him around wearing a PAKT t-shirt!!

After The Bootstrapers electrifying trio set it was time for PAKT! The crowd was anxiously waiting…and I must say, Nublu, is one of the best venues in NYC to play…the sound & vibe was on point. They take good care of their artists. Our set jumped straight off. Percy was on fire…and, personally, I felt on, or inside the music immediately…and such great listening happening inside the band. It felt great to be back playing with Percy, Alex, and Kenny on a blank canvas. We continue to blaze new trails. We created so many new sonic paintings that night, and just such burning playing, solos, and spontaneous compositions spurred on by the audience riding on the music. PAKT just keeps getting better. The music just flows out of us. There was so much love in that room that amazing night, and I think it comes through on this recording. We hope you will enjoy it as much as we did on that vibrating NYC night. – TIM MOTZER
