Way Out Trio - Way Out Trio (2024)

Recognizing an obvious connection with pianoless experiences of Sonny Rollins from the late 50’s and early 60’s, or with the “harmolodic” creations of Ornette Coleman, the Way Out Trio is no less a band with singular creative intentions. From Olivier Lalauze's double bass emerge lines and melodies that gaze towards infinity, and which, through the magic of the musician's hands, dance with the feverish intensity of Antoine Lucchini's tenor saxophone, ricocheting off the skins and cymbals from Léo Achard’s drums.

Playing “Out” is always a challenge for jazz musicians who bet on improvisation (which here takes a collective turn): going beyond established frameworks to better bring out the essential, the pleasure is inviting the audience to take a journey into their own desires. From this virtuous cycle resulting from a musical triangle, dreamlike horizons emerge which, in these times of compartmentalization of our daily lives, invite us to look outside, elsewhere.
