Approaching 20 years of Delta Spirit, lead singer/songwriter Matthew Logan Vasquez is slated to release the first of a 3 album box set reimagining songs that stretch across the band’s full discography. Recorded in the garage honky tonk of a beloved neighbor and mentor, Frank’s Full Moon Saloon features more exposed versions of songs that still hold spiritual weight for Vasquez. “Each song in this collection is sort of an epiphany from my earlier selves. They still transport me to those moments and after years of performance, I have exponential appreciation for what they’ve come to mean to me.”
On disc 1, fans of the early aughts records will enjoy hearing hits like “Bushwick Blues” and “Yamaha” as well as appearances from familiar MLV peers and co-writers. Shovels & Rope guest on Middle Brother’s “Blue Eyes”, a project formed in tandem with Deer Tick’s John J. McCauley III and Dawes’ Taylor Goldsmith in 2011. Goldsmith lends his trademark harmonies alongside brother Griffen on “Salt in the Wound”. Other noted contributors to the album are Scott McMicken (Dr. Dog) on leading single “Parade” and Jessica Dobson (Deep Sea Diver) on “Strange Vine.”
