The repertoire of maestro Pablo Sarasate (1844-1908) taken to the field of jazz, the architect of this task of transporting the works of the romantic violinist from yesterday to today is the composer and saxophonist Josetxo Goia-Aribe. Sarasate in the aesthetic framework of jazz, improvisation and a contemporary reading. The Navarrese musician at the head of a squad up to the challenge, with Gonzalo del Val (drums), Josemi Garzón (double bass) and Javier Olabarrieta (piano). He has gone to the pieces that have achieved greater dissemination, such as his 'Zapateado', 'Romanza andaluza', 'Les adieux Rêverie', 'Peteneras', 'Miramar', 'Aires gitanos' and 'Capricho vasco'. This project arises from a Goia-Aribe studio - a reference in the so-called 'European jazz' and with a service record that places him alongside great musicians of the scene, which he also combines with teaching work at the Escuela Superior del Basque Country─, about the work of the internationally famous composer and violinist from Pamplona. The reading is not exempt from new contributions, be it the “addition of new measures, substitute harmonies for the existing ones, cadences with resolutions unexpected to use, modulations and harmonic relationships unexpected in nineteenth-century ears, improvisation…” as noted in the presentation of the recording. Only with extensive knowledge of tradition, Sarasate's work and great skills for arrangements, composition and improvisation can you emerge victorious as they do here, a fantastic program like this one they deliver.
