DFA regular Juan Maclean takes an unexpected left turn to new age ambient in the Infinity Machine duo with fellow New Yorker Gregg Droggitis. This is part 2 of 3. In pursuit of similar, atmospheric vectors as DFA alum Gavilán Rayna Russom, the Infinity Machine duo unfurl the breadth of their wide-eyed, kosmche new age vision across a nearly 3-hour trip collecting all three tapes. The mode is shamanistic, therapeutic, and spiritual, embracing space far away from the ‘floor of which they’ve respectively, individually played to since the ‘90s. In carefully plotted steps they summon a different sort of energy, using synths, keys and FX to portray prismatic visions of beat-less music intended to calm nerves and align chakras in a classic style that harks back to Alice Coltrane’s synth mantras, JD Emmanuel’s transcendent new age improvisations or the bucolic appeal of Cluster & Eno, also reminding to John Medeski’s 0PN-executive produced score for ‘The Curse’. We wager you know that steez by now, and Infinity Machine do not mess with expectations, faithfully projecting a warmly romantic, blissful sound bath of gestures that gently suspend one’s attentions in their cat’s cradle synth arrangements and candle-flicker lines of extended melodic thought.
