The VOX WERDENSIS ensemble emerged from the Schola of the Folkwang University of the Arts and under the direction of its founder Stefan Klöckner has developed into a distinguished professional interpreter of Gregorian choral music and mediaeval music.
Established in its current form (consisting of 7 to 9 professional and semi-professional singers – most of them former or current students at the Folkwang University of the Arts) in 2009, VOX WERDENSIS organised several concerts with the music of Werden Monastery ("Musica enchiriadis") and the Essener Dom ("Essen Passion Play") as part of the participation by Folkwang University in a 2010 Cultural Capital highlight event.
In the summer of 2011 and 2014, the ensemble sang at the International Gregorian Music Festival in Vác/Hungary at the invitation of the Hungarian Gregorian Association. In 2012, there ensued two concert tours to Berlin and Stralsund as well as Southern Germany / Austria (Heidelberg, Munich and Salzburg). In 2014, the ensemble made guest appearances both at the International Organ Week in Nuremberg (ION) and the Nederlands Gregoriaans Festival in the Netherlands.
As part of the Festival for Old Music in Cologne, VOX WERDENSIS performed in the Schnütgen Museum the mediaeval "Officium lusorum", a mass parody from "Carmina burana" (WDR live recording).
In the autumn of 2014, the ensemble rehearsed a CD with the Divine Office in honour of St. Liudger; this production was followed by a concert in the Paulus-Dom zu Münster, in the course of which the Divine Office rang out "live" again for the first time in many centuries.
