Jenny Chi & Chibossa - The CD Sensuality, longing and melancholy can best describe the atmosphere generated by Jenny Chi and ChiBossa in their debut CD. Jenny Chi and ChiBossa interpret thirteen Bossa Nova gems and succeed in creating an intimate acoustical setting. In the singer's twelve favorite tunes plus a joint composition together with her guitarist, Jenny's velvety voice touches the themes of unachievable love, longing, and the beauty of Brazil, to create a mood of sweet melancholy. The rediscovery of relatively unknown compositions by well known composers such as Chico Buarque, Tom Jobim, Ary Barroso, and Baden Powell gently take you to the Rio of the sixties, when Bossa Nova was in full bloom. These recordings were completed in two sessions extending over several days in colaberation with Martin Pearson (Queen, Roger Waters) who helped Jenny Chi and ChiBossa establish a special effect. The sessions took place in a live situation. The result is entrancing and attains a raw intimacy; the listener has the feeling of sitting right in the center of the band. In addition to the traditional Bossa Nova formation of vocals (Jenny Chi), guitar (Ademir Cândido), bass (Ralph Sonderegger) and drums/percussion (Eduardo Costa), four other instruments were added to enhance the smooth Brazilian sound. This further shading was provided by bandoneon (Michael Zisman), piano (Thomas Silvestri), cello (Daniel Pezzotti) and cavaquinho (Floriano Inacio Junior). Even a listener unfamiliar with Brazil experiences a vague wistfulness, and may even feel a warm prickle on their skin and a faintly salty breeze in their face. Jenny Chi & Chibossa - Biography Jenny Chi discovered her love for Bossa Nova at the end of her teens. The melancholy and wistful mood of the music enthralled her immediately. She began to sing the tunes of João Gilberto, accompanying herself on the guitar. Later, Jenny Chi went to Brazil for half a year in order to incorporate the mood of the country into her singing and her music. Upon her return to Switzerland in 1998 the Sino Swiss singer launched her own Bossa Nova band together with two musician friends: 'Jenny Chi & Chibossa'. The formation has since grown into a quartet. February 2007 sees the release of her first CD entitled 'Jenny Chi & Chibossa', featuring twelve old Bossa Nova gems by composers such as Chico Buarque, Tom Jobim, Ary Barroso and Baden Powell, plus a beautifully delicate self penned composition with her guitarist, Ademir Cândido. These are live recordings and the listener has the feeling of sitting with the band and witnessing first hand their enchanting raw intimacy and authenticity. Jenny Chi was born in 1975. She studied classical singing, as well as jazz singing at the Zürich Jazz School and attended classes in Cuban and Brazilian percussion in Switzerland and in Brazil.
