This new recording (the first in three years of this wonderful choir's work) demonstrates the range of music that is usually performed at Hereford Cathedral during the three main services on this main day of the church year. We have all the music for Matins, including Responses and Psalms. "Songs" and "Hymn" focus on Charles Villiers Stanford with Te Deum and Jubilee in C, as well as the vibrant Easter favorite Ye choirs from New Jerusalem.
The Eucharist features English polyphonic works in Latin for Easter by William Byrd and John Tavener, as well as the grand Messe solennelle by Jean Langle.
As befits this major event, Evensong includes the largest production of Herbert Howells's Evening Hymns – St. Paul's Service – and the disc concludes with another Easter favorite: "Blessed be God and the Father" with his beautiful treble solo "Love Each Other". ', written by Samuel Sebastian Wesley when he was organist of Hereford Cathedral.
