"Essais" is the only and iconic studio album by the French underground trio Semool, recorded between 1969 and 1971 and released in 1971 on the legendary French experimental music label Futura Records.
This release is considered an "absolute masterpiece" of the radical French underground music scene of the turn of the decade.

Semool was a trio of uncompromising French experimental musicians: Philippe Martineau, Olivier Cauquil, and Rémy "Dédé" Dréano. "Essais" (translated as "Experiments" or "Attempts") is a completely improvisational, raw, and hypnotic canvas consisting of 10 untitled compositions ("Essai 1," "Essai 2," and so on). The album is of great value to collectors of rare European avant-garde music.
