Charm of Finches recorded their fourth forthcoming full-length album Marlinchen in the Snow in February 2023 with acclaimed Canadian producer Daniel Ledwell (Jenn Grant, Oh Pep!) in Nova Scotia during the depths of winter, surrounded by woods, snow, and a frozen lake on their doorstep.
Many of the album’s songs were penned whilst Charm of
Finches were on an extensive UK/European tour in 2022, and reflect on travel, the meaning of home, belonging, and the fragility of relationships.
However, the frozen beauty of Nova Scotia had the sisters spellbound and the result is a collection of songs imprinted with an atmosphere evocative of the haunting beauty of deep mid-winter, woven with the gothic folklore and mythology of their childhood recalled by the studio’s fairy-tale landscape, and re-imagined to reflect the sisters’ modern life experiences, as women and artists.
