Flatwound is a Southeastern Connecticut band made up of five guys who live to play the Blues. It is a collaboration of five people with one goal, to write their own music and not go the way of other cover bands in the area. Flatwound emerged from a weekly outlet to relieve stress. Mike Jones hailing from North Stonington CT on lead guitar, really rips it up with his background in theory and days of burnin it down with Rock. Tate Tomis from Preston Ct. on rhythm guitar adds smooth and sultry tones sings backup vocals and writes lyrics. John Cripps on bass with 30 years of experience is a talented player comes through with thundering tones and smooth solid base lines also joins in as backup vocalist and lyricist. Gary Paul of Norwich Ct is the man who takes those lyrics and sends them wailing has a background alternative and other genres. Bill Hewes from Pawcatuck Ct, the drummer, keeps it all in beat, and is the backbone of the group. Each has varied skills and a myriad of talents that melt in the musical cauldron that the world can now call Flatwound. Since they originated, they have worked hard to find their true musical identity and unique style. Though their influences are scattered though all musical genres, they collectively feel that all blues musicians are considered influential. With that said, this band plays no cover music. Their music is truly their own. It also belongs not only to them but to music lovers with an open mind. The band is assisted by a road crew consisting of Richard Cripps who sets up also sings back up vocals, Clint Verville who does sound lighting recording and back up vocals and the web site and Wendy Lloyd communication coordinator, sales promotions and an occasional lyric . Steppin' Out is their first release and doing fantastic. It is a live recording without an audience. No Artificial fillers or flavoring added. Their main hope is that you have as much fun listening to them as they had during the two years of all pitching in on writing rewriting and recording their original tunes. It's Blues with a different flavor. Since the cd's release it has been receiving air time on the Saturday and Sunday morning Blues shows on 90.9 WCNI New London Ct. and is going out on the the airwaves on stations in Germany ,Belgium and Spain Denmark, The Netherlands and Norway. .Each gig since gets and more intense and the group that follows bigger and bigger. That is great because our "fans' are what it is all about. Lots of new gigs are now in the planning stages, so please visit our website www.flatwound.com often and check for them as we post them .We are launching into merchandise as well. T shirts will be the first item with tons more to follow. Our new cd MID LIFE CRISIS is out and available.
