Born in Makurazaki, in Japan, Ryoko Nuruki started playing piano when she was five. Upon reaching the age of ten and hearing the music of Keith Jarrett, she fell in love with Jazz. Following a course in classical music at the University of Tokyo, she left to continue her studies in Italy where she discovered jazz music. Later she would move to France where she could further her knowledge of contemporary jazz whilst developing her own individual style of both composition and performance.
Notable for her quality stage performance and her incredible charisma in concert, she has performed on numerous national stage, jazz clubs, and participated in several international festivals like the Nice Jazz festival (France), Jazz in Rome (Italy), The Home Festival (UK), in Morocco, Japan and Germany.
Meeting point of modern Jazz, impressionist and traditional music, her refined work explores new horizons while remaining jubilant and accessible. Her first trio album, Bonsaï Bop (Candid Records, 2008), received rave reviews fom the press. A sensible Jazz almost joyful even in the melancholy which has the power to transform energy into pure emotion. Like a precious pearl that has landed on the planet Jazz, Ryoko's musical vision projects tenderness and humanity.
