Tristan Cappel is a saxophonist, flutist, clarinetist, composer, and producer from Detroit, MI. He is currently based in Los Angeles, CA.

Tristan’s debut jazz album will be releasing in 2024. featuring several of his contemporaries. Stay tuned!

Tristan releases his electronic music under the moniker BOTANICA. Some of his other projects include DRBB, and Detroit-based fusion band Beartrap. As a soloist, Tristan has performed at the Java Jazz Festival in Indonesia, and the Detroit Jazz Festival. In 2022, the Marlonius Jazz Orchestra was commissioned by Colburn Conservatory for a studio recording and residency, documenting the music of Billy Strayhorn where Tristan is a featured soloist and section leader.

As a sideman, Tristan has been a recording or performing artist with Stanley Clarke, Lizzo, Michelle Coltrane, Bruno Mars, Robert Hurst, Gunhild Carling, Walter White, Hugh Jackman, Surya Botofasina, Olivia Dean, Scott Bradlee's Postmodern Jukebox, Walter White, Marlonius Jazz Orchestra, Quelle Rox, Leland Blue, Jonah Graves, Saginaw Bachelor, Randal Fisher & Greg Shilling.

As a multi-instrumentalist, Tristan worked as a recording artist for film, television & video games with composers such as Inon Zur, Jeff Toyne, and Jeff Russo. He has also performed in the pit orchestra for several touring Broadway productions, such as Mean Girls, Company, A Christmas Story, Chicago, Finding Neverland, Anastasia, Hello Dolly, Cats, and Aladdin.

Tristan earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan. He has attended the Jazz & Contemporary Music program at the Banff Center for Arts & Creativity, Keep an Eye Jazz at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, Betty Carter’s Jazz Ahead at the John F. Kennedy Center in Washington DC, and School for Improvised Music at the Brooklyn Conservatory.
