A Symphony Of Shadows is the gripping new album from BlackieBlueBird, the Copenhagen-based dream-pop duo of singer Heidi Lindahl and composer Nils Lassen. “Flying Too Close to the Ground” is a mesmerizing opener, melding haunting vocals, string-laden infusions, and dreamy guitar work for a strong atmospheric intrigue. “Please Don’t Go” follows with a captivating, ghostly enthrallment; the eerie vocal quivers and wordless backing combine in masterful form. A twangier, though equally haunting, production stirs on “My Trembling Guitar,” another success on an album full of them.

A more elaborate orchestration and twinkling precision emanates on “What Time Is It?” — another masterclass in songwriting, and this time reminiscent enjoyably of Weyes Blood and Marissa Nadler. The “no secret,” vocal sequence is especially resonating, building into a chilling refrain with sturdy strings and a momentum-filled brief pause into the title-touting refrain. A Symphony Of Shadows is a fantastic showcase in dream-pop atmospherics from BlackieBlueBird.
