With ´Afterdog´, pianist and composer Norvald Dahl (b.1978) brings together a Norwegian star team for a solid trio debut!
For the past 15 years, Dahl has been an active freelance musician and has led a number of exciting projects both of a national and international nature, with musicians from Norway, Sweden, England, the USA, Spain, Germany, Poland, Ukraine and Ireland. During the master's program at Norway's Academy of Music, he went into the studio and recorded his debut album with the American star saxophonist Jon Irabagon and the award-winning bassist Mats Eilertsen. The album is called "Organic Chamber" (AMP records 2018) and received good reviews in the press. Dahl then took the plunge and started his own record company; Blåmann Records, and has released the following albums: "Flying High" - solo piano, "Flying High collage" - a remix/collage by Inge W. Breistein, and "The Vision" - duo album with the American drummer Colin Stranahan.
In 2020, during the pandemic, Dahl wanted to put together a new project, and invited his personal "dream team" to a concert in Fosnavåg Concert Hall, a trio he called "Pandemic Solution"!
Bassist Ingebrigt Håker Flaten and drummer Håkon Mjåset Johansen have toured together with many of the greats in jazz; Chick Corea, Michael Brecker, Mark Turner, Tony Malaby, Jan Garbarek, Arild Andersen and many more!
They are well known through groups such as Atomic, The Thing, Motif, Come Shine, Urban Connection, IHF Chicago Quintet/Sextet and The Young Mothers.
After a successful Norwegian tour in 2022, Pandemic Solution decided to aim for a record, and in January 2024 they were ready in Fosnavåg Konserthus to record 8 compositions signed by Dahl. The recording is done in "old school" style, where the band stands rigged close together on stage, without walls and separate rooms, hence no possibility of overdubs or post-correction. What we hear is raw and unpolished, the sound of a real live band!
Blåmann Records aims to deliver sound in the highest class, with Steinway mod. D and ´Meyer Sound constellation acoustic system´ in Fosnavåg Concert Hall. The earlier releases have gained attention in the Hifi community and are used as good reference recordings.
We hope they appreciated 'Afterdog', a long-awaited, if not too late, trio debut by pianist Norvald Dahl.
Pandemic Solution delivers fresh and energetic Norwegian jazz, with original compositions and an "infectious joy of playing". The music is inspired by both American and Nordic jazz and the compositions have a wide range, everything from a messy 60's feel to modern sonorities and lyrical melodies. The band has a record release at the Vigeland Museum in June and plans to go on a new tour in the spring.
