Indian Man - Gran's House (2024) [Hi-Res]

This record is the story of what happened when I moved into my grandmother's spare room.

Tough times will happen in life, and when they do, you’ll never forget the people who took care of you in this moment. In 2018, when I arrived on my grandmother's doorstep with all my possessions, she quickly realized I was lost and needed support. When she suddenly sprung it on me that she needed help around the house, that a young person under her roof would be good for her, I didn’t question it. I moved in immediately, eager to help.

Our days were simple, yet we shared so much together, playing cards, telling stories, and cooking her classic recipes. I didn’t realise that just as I was helping her, she was helping me, giving me the love and support I needed to get back on my feet, and eventually to spread my wings. I set up a makeshift studio in her spare room, experimenting with electronic dance music, inspired by the traditional melodies she would sing around the house. Even when I started playing in UK clubs and touring internationally, I would always return to her home in Bristol. My sound evolved, inspired by Gran and her cultural roots, founded in the home and the love she had given me, culminating in the creation of the debut record I began writing all those years ago under her roof.

It has taken four years for the truth to hit me… my grandmother never needed anyone to take care of her. All this time, she was the one helping me, nurturing me from a dark place to a healthy place while supporting both my musical and personal journeys.

Sometimes we can’t see a way forward, and we have to trust the people who love us most to help us through.

Gran’s House is a reminder to dance, express, love, and enjoy every moment of your unique and beautiful life. And it is proof that from even the hardest times, beautiful things will grow.

I hope my story inspires you to spend more time with your Grandparents, or simply to treasure them in your memory.
