Hey, it's been a while since we last heard from Love Language. In fact, it's been six years since the Raleigh band released any records since their Baby Grand. And while we're still waiting, Stuart McLamb is back with an exciting side-project called Fancy Gap that he formed alongside producer Charles Crossingham with a debut album to follow.
Originally intended to be the next album from The Love Language, Stuart McLamb's compositions will take a bolder turn than ever here. Fancy Gap summons country and folk rock influences from the 1990s that were playing on the radio and this is perfectly heard from the first notes of the most captivating "How To Dance". The duo shows an undeniable synergy with tracks rich in nostalgia such as "Little Heart Racer" or "Whispering Winds" highlighting Stuart McLamb's impressive interpretation.
Celebrating love, friendship and brotherhood but touching us by talking about mourning and the unfortunate outcomes that every human goes through, Fancy Gap's first album is rich in poignant moments, especially on "Magnolias" and "40,000 Miles". The superduo also doesn't hesitate to invite the ever-incredible Sharon van Etten for a heady "Strawberry Moon" but also Adam Lazzara on a thrilling "Filthy Habits" before Stuart McLamb's voice intends to move us on "Diamond Cutter" and "Sweet Time" to close this moving musical journey. This musical playground will allow Stuart McLamb to refine his songwriting and his melodic qualities where we hope for a next album from The Love Language.
