The Yardbirds is an English rock group that also launched the careers of three famous guitarists: Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page all played in this band in their early days. Their blues-based music evolved over the years to the point where they bridged the gap between rhythm and blues and psychedelia and laid the foundation for the early heavy metal sound. Their guitarists are among the most influential in pop history.

The Yardbirds pioneered guitar techniques in the 60s: fuzz tone, feedback, distortion and improved gain were largely the result of their experimentation. Their breakup led to the formation of Led Zeppelin: Jimmy Page originally brought his band together to perform pre-arranged Yardbirds tours.
