Bristol-based avant-rock four-piece Lice reimagine prog on their second album, stirring techno, EBM, post-punk and 20th century minimalism into their bolshy, ambitious arrangements. It's like Mr. Bungle on different drugs...

Split into three movements that explore our struggle to better understand the world around us, 'Third Time at the Beach' self-consciously leans into the lavish excesses of prog, and thankfully the band have the chops to handle everything that might entail.

Their songs rarely stay in a single spot for too long, veering remarkably fluidly from idea to idea: theatrical piano and spoken word sections vanish into anxious electronics, and pithy post-punk halts into concrète noise, ruthless industrial music or screaming jazz rock. It's not an easy listen - hyperactive doesn't even come close - but you have to respect Lice's attention to detail here.
