San Cristóbal de Regla - Cuba : San Cristóbal de Regla (Chants et rythmes des rituels afro-cubains) (2022) [Hi-Res]

INEDIT, a label specializing in traditional and popular music, has released a new album in both CD and vinyl formats. The album features the songs and rhythms of Afro-Cuban rituals, performed by the Cuban ensemble San Cristóbal de Regla. Founded in 1953 in Havana's Regla district, the ensemble is part of the Balaez family, a renowned musical dynasty where musical knowledge is passed down from generation to generation. The group, formerly known as "los Güiros de San Cristobal," is now led by second-generation musician Andrés Jacinto Balaez. They perform daily rituals associated with different Afro-Cuban cults, to which they are initiated. The ensemble has been honored with several Cuban state awards in recognition of their contribution to "Living Memory" and the "Preservation of Traditions".
