Raphael Roginski - Plays John Coltrane and Langston Hughes (2024)

Raphael Roginsky's Plays John Coltrane & Langston Hughes is a reissue of his popular 2015 album. This expanded edition, released in the Populista series by the Bôłt Records label, features solo guitar interpretations of John Coltrane's compositions inspired by his unique style combining jazz, blues and folk idioms. At the same time, the album contains two compositions on poems by Langston Hughes that explore mystical experiences across cultures. Roginsky takes unusual musical approaches, aiming for polyphonic tension, intimacy and mysticism, and the expanded reissue includes four new tracks reflecting his altered playing style, more tender and intimate, and returning to the concept of reinterpreting Coltrane's work. The cover artwork of the reissue visually links to Roginsky's Žaltys album, released on the Unsound label, through images of Marcin Janusz's painting Kalendarz 2023.
