He first recorded a 78 for the Independent label in Houston, Texas, in 1949 (released as Robert Smith), with a 45 following for Bobbin, recorded in St. Louis in 1959 (released as Robert T. Smith). "Smith quit music for 13 years after getting married, but returned as Piano Slim." (The Penguin guide to blues recordings (2006)
