Best Bets - The Hollow Husk of Feeling (2024) [Hi-Res]

Ōtautahi power poppers Best Bets have re-emerged from the dense wilderness of the South Island to a world turned upside down. Undeterred, they have delivered the first offering from their second full-length album The Hollow Husk of Feeling. The lead single ‘Monster’ is a jangly rocker, evoking feelings of isolation and yearning. The album lands 27 September via Spanish label Meritorio and NZ-based Melted Ice Cream. ‘Monster’ is the first songwriting contribution to the band from Joe Sampson, adding another colour to Best Bets’ already bountiful lyrical palette, indicative of his style and work in Salad Boys. Centred on strong imagery and themes of self reflection, solitude and nihilism, the song is delivered in the form of a melodic, jangly rocker, giving the listener a glimmer of hope.
