HASARD, the new CD by Claudio Fasoli with NeXt Quartet. Hasard in French: chance, chance, risk, danger, uncertainty, possibility, luck, unexpected, destiny, coincidence… The concept of hasard objectif, explored by André Breton and the surrealists, is a notion at the same time fascinating and enigmatic in the field of creativity, evoking disturbing coincidences and surprising encounters. (Sandro Cerini in the cover lines). In the compositions presented in Hasard, we find the peculiarities of Fasoli’s research, to which electronics are added, which find ample space on the evocative and rhythmic level: mass of sound, noisy clouds blend with Fasoli’s rigorous compositional knowledge. With the NeXt Quartet, Fasoli presents the development of a group in which Simone Massaron’s electric guitar characterizes its language through a wide and varied, unpredictable commitment to timbre, the acoustic support of Tito Mangialajo Rantzer’s double bass on the other hand proposes a dark and material climate that paradoxically goes well with the coloristic apotheosis of the guitar, while Stefano Grasso creates rational rhythmic connections, but also nervous and dialectical ones. “Massaron, Mangialajo Rantzer and Grasso deserve to be greatly praised, as an ideal group for this form of expression”. On these horizons flies the extraordinary sound of Fasoli’s saxophone that manages to bring the unmistakable and expressive sound like a blade of light. The desire to always follow paths that deviate from the obviousness of the already known has never failed this free and highly cultured musician. Continuous research and inexhaustible creativity mark Claudio Fasoli’s music and place him at the top of jazz and experimental music. “Fasoli is one of the most far-sighted and perceptive composers around, as well as a soloist with a very personal and recognizable style”, write Philippe Carles, André Clergeat and Jean-Louis Comolli in the Dictionary of Jazz. Hasard – a visionary album – confirms this.
