Luca Gelli - Shorter Notes (2024)

Produced by Dodicilune, distributed in Italy and abroad by IRD and in major online stores by BELIEVE DIGITAL, Tuesday, Oct. 1, sees the release of “Shorter Notes,” the new CD by Florentine guitarist, composer, arranger and teacher Luca Gelli leading his Organ Trio with Manrico Seghi on Hammond organ and Giovanni Paolo Liguori on drums. The disc, a heartfelt tribute to the music of the great American musician and saxophonist Wayne Shorter (1933 - 2023) features Dario Cecchini's baritone sax, Cosimo Boni's trumpet, Pierre Do Sameiro's tenor sax and Nico Gori's clarinet on some tracks.

"The idea of a project on the music of Wayne Shorter was born shortly before his death in early 2023. Shortly afterwards, moved by the great emotion of such a great loss, 'Shorter Notes' took concrete shape. It is a tribute to his compositions dating back to the mid-1960s, including the great classics of his repertoire such as 'Speak No Evil' or 'Yes Or No', as well as other lesser-performed pieces such as 'House Of Jade' or 'Fee-Fi-Fo-Fum'. The original arrangements enhance the 'Blue Note' style sound of my trio together with the numerous guests, in some cases strongly respecting the original versions, in others extensively reworking the source material".
