Long before bossa nova or salsa, the world was invaded by Latin music. It started after 1910 with the tango; then the rumba, the bolero and the samba came along to add spice to pre-war ballrooms. Jazzmen, never slow to pick up a rhythm, adopted and adapted them using their own spicy, swinging sauces, with dancing de rigueur.
