This latest, fulfilling work condenses the ongoing sound of world-renowned jazz pianist Chihiro Yamanaka, focusing on the works of Bud Powell and Henry Mancini, who are celebrating their 100th birthdays.
Chihiro Yamanaka is one of Japan's leading jazz pianists, active around the world and based in New York. Since her debut in 2001, she has released more than 20 albums and performed with such legends as Herbie Hancock and George Benson. She is a top artist who continues to perform at prestigious halls and clubs around the world, including Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, and Ronnie Scott's.
This is her first completely new recording in about a year since her 2023 work ``Dolce Vita'' (UCCJ-9243, UCCJ-2227). This new album features a diverse lineup of works by Bud Powell and Henry Mancini, whose 100th birthdays will be in 2024, as well as three new songs written by Yamanaka himself. Recorded in New York with the accomplished trio of Yoshi Waki (b) and John Davis (ds), the album is a rich culmination of Yamanaka's ongoing sound.
