An ensemble of nine musicians united by a love for the traditional folk music of the British Isles but also a shared commitment to experimentation, Shovel Dance Collective are both timeless and modern. Their second formal album, The Shovel Dance, features plenty of complex musical structuring but it never gets in the way of the rich arrangements and stunning vocal performances (from eight singers backed by over two dozen instruments, by the way).
