Body Meπa is a New York-based quartet featuring Greg Fox (drums), Sasha Frere-Jones (guitar), Melvin Gibbs (bass), and Grey McMurray (guitar). Known for their explorative blend of rock, jazz, fusion, contemporary classical, and improvised music, each member brings a rich background that goes beyond just sound, extending into various creative practices. Their second album, Prayer in Dub, follows The Work Is Slow (2020), and was largely recorded shortly after the band’s formation. This release captures a deepened group synergy, emphasizing textural and rhythmic nuances, motif variations, and a style they call “New York City body music.” Rooted in the energy and complexity of New York, the band’s performances combine the raw physicality of rock with improvisational freedom, pushing genre boundaries to reflect the diverse cityscape they emerged from.
