This is Karl Onibuje 4th album called YOKAYU which was developed during and post-COVID.
It is a 40 minute, 9-track ALT.UK.JAZZ album that is an exploration and reflection of London’s melting pot of cultures, sonically examining where they clash and disagree, as well as moments of beauty and peace where they meld and harmonise.
Listeners can expect an experimental approach to groove music, with elements of rock, afrobeat, electric and acoustic jazz, exploratory improvisation, electronica, synthesizers and ambient folk.
Several amazing artist feature on the album such as Yohan Kebede (KOKOROKO), Yusuf Ahmed (UNKOWN TO KNOWN, QWALIA) and Karl has also managed to bring Kinzli (KINZLI AND THE KILOWATTS) out from retirement to co-write and sing a short song.
If you enjoy the sounds of 1000 KINGS, THE SMILE, WEATHER REPORT you will hopefully find much connection with this album.
