Anne Chris - Play For Now (2010)

In his show Screamstorm, Youp van 't Hek features the girl who brings him flowers during the final applause. He doesn't let her go, says: ''First time bringing flowers? Do you understand that no one wanted it?'', then starts whining a lot about the bouquet and then also sings her a dirty song. Everything appears to have been staged, because the flower girl turns out to be a true vamp with a big throat, who sings about 'Mr Van 't Hek with his big mouth'. One of those flower girls was Anne Chris.

There is also a good chance that you saw her sing at the North Sea Jazz Festival, because jazz is the main subject of this Amsterdam singer. Although jazz? She herself cites the Norwegian formation Beady Belle and Stevie Wonder as sources of inspiration. And indeed, on her second album Play for now, the influence of Beady Belle is particularly noticeable: the same pleasantly transparent mix of acoustic and electronic, the same atmosphere of melancholy and light-heartedness.
