Review by Scott Yanow
Two years into her return from a six-year retirement, Helen Humes was at the height of her fame when she reunited with producer John Hammond to make her lone Columbia album. Joined by Buddy Tate (doubling on tenor and clarinet), guitarist George Benson (a Hammond discovery a decade earlier), pianist Ellis Larkins, bassist Major Holley and drummer Oliver Jackson, Humes is in fine form for a fairly typical mixture of blues, standards and ballads. She sounds particularly inspired during "He May Be Your Man," "Every Now and Then," "If I Could Be With You" and "Deed I Do."
