Queda Livre (Freefall), the debut album by Caxtrinho (Paulo Vitor Castro), is a vibrant blend of samba and psychedelic rock. The 25-year-old black musician from Belford Roxo, Rio de Janeiro, delivers a fresh take on chronicling everyday life through music. His album combines humor and inventive instrumentation to portray the modern experiences of black Brazilians.

The opening track, “Cria de BEL” (Raised in BEL's Hood), is a self-reflective journey through the realities of growing up in the outskirts of Rio, marked by racial and class differences. The album reflects Caxtrinho's Candomblé heritage and samba roots, complemented by psychedelic guitar work from Eduardo Manso and Vovô Bebê, alongside João Lourenço on bass and Phill Fernandes on drums.

The album cover, featuring Arjan Martins' artwork, underscores themes of territory and class through its depiction of a stormy sea, a rope, and an oar, symbolizing the divided landscapes of Rio and the shared struggles of black artists. Queda Livre is both a celebration of identity and an exploration of resilience, creativity, and cultural heritage in a rapidly changing world.
