Inspired by the melodic, hard rock scene of the late 80s with bands such as Def Leppard, Europe, Mötley Crüe, Bon Jovi and GNR, Nitrate is the brainchild of Nick Hogg, a Nottingham based musician who, after playing in a few bands in the early 2000s, decided to give songwriting a try. He took a break from the scene for several years until deciding, in 2015, to give writing another try.

Nick worked on Nitrate's debut album with fellow Nottingham songwriter/musician Rob Wylde with whom he shared similar musical influences. Between them, they managed to put together the band's debut album, 'Real World', which also featured former Zinatra singer Joss Mennen. Hailed by many fans and critics as a breath of fresh air for the melodic rock/AOR community, it features a battery of arena-ready songs that take the listener back to the days when Def Leppard ruled the airwaves. The band’s momentum continued with 2019’s “Open Wide,” which featured new guitarist and vocalist Philip Lindstrand and brought a punchier, edgier edge to Nitrate. With tighter songwriting, it was rockier, and there were vast improvements in the production department. “Open Wide” is a tribute to Hogg’s influences: an amalgamation of the best that MTV had to offer in the late ’80s.
