Korean-born Min Rager is one of Canada's leading female jazz pianists and composers. She moved to Montreal in 1997 to pursue a professional music career. She earned a Master's degree in Jazz Performance from McGill University's Schulich School of Music, where she graduated with an "Outstanding Achievement in Jazz Piano" distinction.
Her quintet was nominated for the "General Motors Jazz Grand Prix de" at the 2005 Montreal International Jazz Festival. That same year, Min received the "Best New Artist" award at Montreal's L'OFF Festival de Jazz.
Min has released 2 CDs as a conductor, "Bright Road" and "First Step" on Montreal-based Effendi Records. In 2017, Min independently released her 3rd CD, "Train Of Thought."
In 2008, Min was commissioned by the CBC to compose a jazz suite for 2 pianos. The 10-minute piece was submitted to the European Broadcasting Union as part of "The Handel Project 2009" to mark the 250th anniversary of the composer's death.
Min has performed on several film scores for the National Film Board of Canada. He is featured on the score for the internationally acclaimed documentary "Letters from Pyongyang" directed by Jason Lee.
He has toured extensively in Canada and continues to perform actively with some of North America's finest jazz musicians, including Don Thompson, Terry Clarke, Kieran Overs, Donny McCaslin, Joel Frahm, Walt Weiskopf, Kenji Omae, Kevin Dean, Andre White.
Min is currently a faculty member at McGill University's Schulich School of Music and Concordia University, where he teaches piano studio and a variety of courses including jazz keyboard proficiency, jazz arranging, jazz improvisation/musicianship, improvisation fundamentals, and jazz combo training.
