Xhosa Cole - On A Modern Genius, Vol.1 (2025) [Hi-Res]

Acclaimed saxophonist Xhosa Cole will release his third album, On A Modern Genius (Vol.1), on January 10, 2025, through Stoney Lane Records. The dynamic live recording celebrates Thelonious Monk’s compositions with inventive interpretations by Cole and his quartet, captured during a 38-date UK tour in 2023. The album opens with Monk's "Trinkle-Tinkle" and features guest appearances, including tap dancer Liberty Styles on four tracks and vocalist Heidi Vogel on Duke Ellington’s "Come Sunday."

Cole reflects on Monk’s influence, crediting him for teaching the interplay between melody, groove, authenticity, and identity. The album celebrates friendship, joy, and improvisation, rooted in Cole’s deep admiration for Monk and his legacy.

Building on the success of his previous albums, K(no)w Them, K(no)w Us (2021) and Ibeji (2022), Cole continues to rise in the jazz and classical music scenes, earning critical acclaim and collaborating with renowned artists globally.
