The New Mourning - Songs of Confusion (2025)

The New Mourning is a music project led by Austrian musician and recording engineer Thomas Pronai, who runs an analog studio on the rural outskirts of the Pannonian Steppe. Pronai has recorded many notable Austrian artists alongside his own bands. The idea for The New Mourning emerged in 2018 during a tour of Germany with Pete Astor’s band, where Pronai was inspired by the simplicity of live rock 'n' roll music. Three months later, the band recorded their debut single in London on James Hoare’s 16-track tape machine.

Following their debut, the band toured across Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, pausing briefly to record backing tracks for their first album, When The Light Fades, which was completed in January 2020 but released in May 2022 due to the pandemic. In January 2024, The New Mourning reconvened to begin work on their second album. Two years of live performances have refined their sound, with the Bass VI playing a central role, evolving the band into a three-guitar ensemble with a distinctive “wall of guitars” sound.
