The extremely successful German crime series Pfarrer Braun ran for ten years and 22 episodes (in eight seasons) on ARD. It ended with the episode “Brauns Heimkehr”, which was first broadcast in 2014, in which Father Guido Braun, played by Ottfried Fischer, dies the series death. The crime thriller pastor was musically accompanied by the film music of one of the greatest German film and TV composers: Martin Böttcher, who wrote the music for “Die Halbstarken”, several Karl May film adaptations (“Winnetou”) and Edgar Wallace films, as well as the TV series “Sonderdezernat K1”.Title: Pfarrer Braun

Martin Böttcher, born on June 17, 1927 in Berlin, has been writing German film music history since 1955. He was virtually predestined to write the music for “Pfarrer Braun” through his soundtracks for two Pater Brown films (1960 and 1962, with Heinz Rühmann in the leading role). Both series are based, albeit only loosely, on the literary template of the “Father Brown” stories by English author Gilbert Keith Chesterton (1874-1936). As a throwback to the Father Brown films,
the ringtone of Father Braun's cell phone in the new series features the first few bars of the Father Brown theme by Martin Böttcher.
Böttcher wrote the music for 21 of the 22 episodes; only in episode 21 (“Ausgegeigt!”) can only his title theme be heard, the rest of the music was composed by Klaus Doldinger.
The present CD contains 34 tracks from the Pfarrer Braun episodes 1-20, 29 of which have not been released before. A total of 50 minutes of Martin Böttcher: suspense, romance and great melodies.
On October 23, 2014, the “Grandseigneur of German Film Music” will receive the Honorary Award of the German Film Music Award.
