Wspak - Songs of the Rising Sun (2024)

The WSPAK duo was founded in 2018 by two friends from Białystok – Adrianna Maria Kafel-Woźniak and Aleksandra Pura-Cidyło, though their joint musical journey began back in 2006. Inspired by borderland folklore and church music, the duo creates original arrangements of traditional songs from Podlasie, Ukraine, and the Lemko region. As the group developed, string instruments such as the violin, cello, and the Bilgoraj suka were added to their vocal beginnings. The duo’s name comes from the unique instrument “w s p a k,” which symbolizes their alternative approach to music – an escape from perfection in favor of authenticity and emotion. The album *Songs of the Rising Sun* is the result of their musical explorations and a sentimental journey to their roots.
