Duduka Da Fonseca Trio - Rio Fantasia (2025) [Hi-Res]

Duduka Da Fonseca’s Rio Fantasia captures the magic of Brazilian music, blending samba and bossa nova with jazz improvisation. A master drummer, Da Fonseca has been a key figure in both jazz and Brazilian music, collaborating with legends like Astrud Gilberto and Antonio Carlos Jobim.

Returning to Rio de Janeiro in December 2023, he reunited with pianist David Feldman and bassist Guto Wirtti to record their fifth album. The trio, known for their instinctive chemistry, recorded Rio Fantasia at Biscoito Fino Studio on January 13, 2024, featuring a mix of original compositions and Brazilian classics. Most tracks were recorded in a single take to preserve spontaneity.

Highlights include Feldman’s moody “Navegar,” a lively take on Toninho Horta’s “Soccer Ball,” and a unique 6/8 interpretation of Francis Hime’s “Minha.” The album also features guest appearances by vocalist Maucha Adnet and saxophonist Paulo Levi on Jobim and Buarque’s “Retrato em Branco e Preto.” Wirtti’s “Santa Maria” and Da Fonseca’s “Manhattan Style” round out the recording with vibrant rhythms and deep musical expression.

Rio Fantasia showcases the trio’s imaginative and joyful approach to Brazilian music, proving that true artistry transcends genre.
