Big Black Delta - ADONAI (2025)

Johnathan Bates’ electro-industrial solo project Big Black Delta is set to release its fifth album, ADONAI, on February 28. This marks the first major release since 2020’s 4, aside from last year’s acoustic reinterpretation of his catalog. The album's third single, “Pik Pok”, departs from its balladic new wave predecessors, embracing cathartic dance music in an instrumental format.
Bates describes the track as inspired by his past experiences with heavy drinking, THC, and early morning walks, which he says opened a mental “portal” to a surreal sonic realm reminiscent of Esquivel’s compositions and “DMT elf music.” The music video features a mysterious figure brusquely walking down the street with Bates’ superimposed face, ending cryptically with a funniest home video clip.
