The Guy Hamper Trio - The Goddess Tree (2024)

The Guy Hamper Trio was formed by Billy Childish after a conversation with James Taylor (Hammond organ). Childish and Taylor had previously played in The Milkshakes and The Prisoners, frequently sharing stages in the 1980s.
The trio consists of Billy Childish (guitar), his wife Julie (bass), Wolf (drums)—who was also the original drummer for The James Taylor Quartet (JTQ)—and James Taylor (Hammond organ). Their music blends blues-influenced, raw instrumental chaos, embracing imperfection and rejecting musical norms.
They debuted in 2009 with a single (Polygraph Test / Sally Sensation), followed by their first full-length album, All The Poisons In The Mud, in 2022. Since then, they have released multiple 7” singles and two more full-length albums.
Their latest release continues their tradition of jazz/pop mayhem, with some tracks featuring Bash Brand and Tub Johnson (effectively Thee Headcoats) as the rhythm section. The trio remains a perfect musical match, and fans can look forward to more from these genre-defying innovators.
