After Visions of Selam in 2018, Arat Kilo is back with Danama. While the band's roots remain in the ethio jazz of the 60s and 70s, their new album explores new horizons by borrowing from the frenzied rhythms of Newark's jersey club, English 2-step and New Orleans brass bands. We find the powerful dialogue between Mamani Keita's song of hope and the social criticism of American MC and poet Mike Ladd. 12 tracks mixed by “Gib” from the famous beatmaker collective La Fine Equipe. “Trustworthy” is the meaning of “Danama”, a Bambara word from Mali. Trust in oneself, in others, in one's word, in a desirable future in our contemporary world, which is beset by crises and individualism.
